Replete with ropes, gear and cool gadgets, rock climbing is a great way to build strength and endurance throughout your body in a surprisingly low-impact way. The best place to try it out is Rockreation, an indoor climbing facility in Costa Mesa. This indoor climbing gym is a great way to "learn the ropes," and provide everything you need. Just wear your workout clothing and they'll supply the rest, including the most important element: instruction.
With 12,000 square feet of sculpted climbing terrain, Rockreation is Orange County’s best climbing gym. It features top ropes with many varying angles and 1/3 of the gym is dedicated to bouldering. Bouldering is a style of rock climbing undertaken without a rope and normally limited to very short climbs over a crash pad so that a fall will not result in serious injury. Rockreation in Costa Mesa also has a separate workout area with exercise machines, traditional weights and cardio equipment. The friendly staff provides a fun environment that combines a range of climbs with varying degrees of difficulty to create a unique environment for the beginner or the expert climber. Rockreation’s facility accommodates top-rope climbing, a style of climbing in which a rope used for the climber's safety runs from a belayer at the bottom of a route through one or more carabiners connected to an anchor system at the top of the route. The rope then leads back down to the climber who is attached to it.
Rockreation also accommodates lead climbing, a climbing technique used to ascend a route. This technique is predominantly used in rock climbing and it involves a lead climber attaching themselves to a dynamic, elastic climbing rope and ascending a route while periodically attaching protection to the face of the route and clipping in to it.
