“Ivan Lins’ songs powerfully attest to the global reach of his music.” — Los Angeles Times
Three Jazz Club series favorites join forces with the wonderfully talented Pacific Jazz Orchestra in celebration of the great Ivan Lins’ 80th birthday! Join us for an evening of extraordinary jazz musicianship and wonder in the acoustic splendor of our gorgeous Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.
Songwriter, vocalist, and pianist Ivan Lins is an icon of Brazilian music - one of the most treasured and recorded composers in the world and a melodist with few equals. Known for the many Grammy Awards and Latin Grammy Awards he received, Lins is a complete musician with over 40 albums in his storied career. His music has been recorded by icons such as Sarah Vaughan, Quincy Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Manhattan Transfer, Al Jarreau and Michael Bublé among many others.
Jane Monheit is a jazz and adult contemporary vocalist with a deep passion for the Great American Songbook. With many highly acclaimed solo albums, countless awards and accolades, and over two decades of international touring experience, Jane has had the privilege of making music with some of the greatest musicians, arrangers, and producers in jazz.
Last but certainly not least, Grammy-winning guitarist Lee Ritenour is an adept jazz performer and stylistic chameleon, known for work in the fusion, crossover, as well as post-bop and Brazilian jazz idioms. The SoCal native, and USC grad, is a noted session musician who earned the nickname "Captain Fingers" for his uncommon dexterity on the guitar!
Performing alongside these three guest artists is the Pacific Jazz Orchestra, LA’s new resident 40-piece ensemble for jazz and beyond. The only orchestra of its kind in the country, and with its talent pool of musicians, Los Angeles is the only city where an ensemble like this can be put together, representing jazz, our uniquely American art form.
With such monumental talent on stage, this concert is sure to be remembered for years to come!
