Originally named Portola Coffee Lab, this Orange County favorite is all about creating the best coffee experience. Their seasonal menus still experiment with coffee, such as using flowers and bee pollen during spring in their rose orgeat or honey bee lattes. Their regular menu is all about crafting the perfect cup. Visit the flagship Costa Mesa store where you can see the beans being expertly roasted on weekdays.

The Lost Bean serves organic coffee and keeps a “sustainable model of consumption.” They have a full menu of coffee, tea and lemonade options, as well as blended coffees. Their menu also serves breakfast and lunch.
Bad Coffee

Bad Coffee may have a straightforward menu, but their tongue-in-cheek vibe makes this coffeehouse anything but ordinary. Stop in for an espresso tonic, latte or something on the “not coffee :(“ menu. They have vegan options, including dairy free chocolate for their mochas.

Their unique “featured creations” menu includes an iced coffee rose, iced mint mojito and iced gingersnap. All of their drinks are customizable and available hot or iced. As part of the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, Philz offers sustainable, responsibly sourced coffee.
Dripp Coffee Bar

Dripp Coffee Bar opened its third location at South Coast Plaza, in the Saks Fifth Avenue wing. The specialty coffee bar features handcrafted coffees, as well as locally sourced treats like ice cream and pastries. Their beverages are made from Espresso Republic® beans, which are roasted in small batches. They offer fair trade, non-GMO and organic options.

Lion and Lamb Coffee Roasters

With a colorful mural outside, Lion and Lamb Coffee Roasters is an Instagram-worthy spot for sure. “Change the world, start with coffee” is the motto here. Lion and Lamb Coffee Roasters gives 100% of the profit from coffee bean sales to charities supporting hunger, thirst and homelessness. All of their coffees are organically grown and fair trade.

MoonGoat Coffee

MoonGoat Coffee Roasters opened in 2019 and they are quickly making a name for themselves. Food critic Brad A. Johnson is a fan of their Dark Side of the MoonGoat espresso blend. Popular Costa Mesa restaurant Eat Chow serves their special 18th Street blend. MoonGoat takes their name from the goats that discovered coffee by eating the fruit and bleating at the moon at night.

It’s a family business that started with Alta Organic Coffee and Tea Company in Newport Beach. Wilson Coffee Roasters is served at restaurants throughout Los Angeles and Orange County, including Taco Maria in Costa Mesa.
