Orange County Museum of Art

The Orange County Museum of Art is the premier visual arts organization in Orange County, California. In 1984 the museum launched the California Biennial, which has grown to become the premier exhibition for emerging artists in California. Opening February 26th, 2012, Richard Diebenkorn: The Ocean Park Series is the first major museum exhibition to explore the artist’s Ocean Series. Featuring 80 works including paintings, prints, drawings and collages, the exhibition will eventually tour to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

Richard Diebenkorn: The Ocean Park Series will run from February 26 to May 27, 2012 at the Orange County Museum of Art.

Bowers Museum

The Bowers Museum has been voted “The Best Museum in Orange County” by the readers of The Orange County Register for 14 consecutive years and is accredited by the American Association of Museums, an honor only 5% of museums receive. This spring, visitors to the Bowers can explore the world’s finest collection of pre-Hispanic gold on loan from the Museo del Oro of Bogotá, Colombia with Sacred Gold: pre-Hispanic Art of Colombia.

Few gold artifacts escaped the Conquistadors as they marched across the Americas, and this exhibit is the largest collection of surviving indigenous gold objects in the world, including bracelets, necklaces, crowns and breastplates, masks, votive figures and anthropomorphic sculptures.

Sacred Gold: Pre-hispanic Art of Colombia will run from March 31 to July, 01, 2012, at the Bowers Musuem.

Discovery Science Center

Although the Discovery Science Center’s latest hit exhibit is already underway, there is still plenty of time to check it out for yourself! Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination explores the fantasy technologies in the Star Wars films, the science behind them and current research that may lead to real-life versions of these technologies. Visitors to the exhibit will be able to build and test their own speeders and robots, ride a hovercraft, see real artifacts, costumes and props from all six Star Wars films and explore the technology of droids and landspeeders.

To celebrate the generations of fans the Star Wars franchise has created, the Discovery Science Center will be hosting numerous fan days throughout the run of the exhibit, where kids ages 3-14 get free general admission when they wear a Star Wars costume. Upcoming fan days include A Galaxy Far, Far Away (Feb. 18th), Empire Strikes Back (March 10th) and Robots and Us (March 24th).

Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination is running from November 18th, 2011 to April 15th, 2012.
