The Newport Beach Film Festival screened over 400 films during the eight day event from April 25 – May 2 in theaters in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.
The newly renovated Triangle in Costa Mesa was the scene for many of the festival’s screenings. From shorts, music videos and student films to action sports, documentaries and full-feature productions. Even big stars like Sam Rockwell and Steve Carrell were featured in some films.
The festival is not only about watching films, it is also an interactive experience where filmmakers sit with the audience and perform Q & As after the screenings. Guests are also encouraged to give feedback on the films through votes, small polls and questionnaires. The votes counted towards festival awards from audience and jury members. This year, over 53,000 attended the festival.
Many local schools like OCC, UCI, CSUF and Chapman had entries in the festival. The Newport Beach Film Festival’s mission is to bring the best classic and contemporary film making to Orange County from around the world. The first NBFF was held in 1999 and has grown in size prestige ever since.
The Newport Beach Film Festival also partners with the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa to host movie Mondays. Movie Mondays are free film screenings at SCFTA’s community plaza. Guests can enjoy the free entertainment under the stars during the warm summer months.
Whether you plan to enjoy a free movie at SCFTA in the summer, submit a film or visit the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2014, Costa Mesa, the City of the Arts is the place to experience the art of film. The film submission window opens on August 1, 2013.
