Flame Broiler Restaurant Review

Posted on April 6, 2010 | 9:00am | Travel Costa Mesa

Flame Broiler has numerous locations all over Orange County, but the one I went to was on Anton and Ave of the Arts in Costa Mesa.  They are a newer location and mainly cater to the people that work in the surrounding offices.  Having heard such great things about this teriyaki place, I decided to finally try it for myself.

Flame Broiler prides themselves on being a healthy option.  Upon walking into the restaurant, I noticed numerous signs that say “no frying, no MSG, no trans fat, and no skin”.  I don’t think fast food can get any better than that.  Glancing over the menu, I noticed they only had a handful of choices, which makes my life just a bit easier.  They had veggie, beef, chicken, and rib options.  You can get it either in a bowl or a plate.  The bowl comes with just rice and the plate comes with a salad and fruit.

I walked up to the counter and ordered a chicken veggie bowl and the person taking my order asked if I wanted brown or white rice.  With no extra charge, you have the option of brown rice.  Of course I chose to go for the healthier.  My lunch date ordered the beef and chicken plate with white rice.  He opted out of the fruit and asked for extra salad.  All of this for under $15, amazing deal.  I saw a sign that noted $1 extra if you wanted all white chicken. Oh the many healthy options that you’re given.

There were a couple of tables inside the small restaurant and a couple outside in the back with a great view of the lake.  It would be nice to have sat outside but it was a bit too breezy.  A couple minutes later, our food was ready. On the side they gave you an option of their Magic Sauce or Spicy Magic Sauce, which is your basic teriyaki sauce and hot sauce.  I grabbed a couple of pumps of each and sat down with my chicken veggie bowl.  The veggies consisted of steamed cabbage, carrots, and broccoli.  All of it seemed so fresh and the chicken was perfectly grilled.  I took a bite of my dates beef and it was nice and juicy.  His salad consisted of cabbage, purple cabbage, and carrots drizzled with a tangy dressing.  My bowl was more than filling and the prices are great.  It’s great to have a healthy fast food option in Costa Mesa.  I will definitely be coming back for a quick lunch and hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy my lunch by the lake.
