The smash hit Broadway musical, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. All of your favorite characters from one of the most beloved stories of all time will spring to life on stage during the elaborate production. Along with the memorable characters, the stage production will also feature the Academy Award® winning score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a timeless tale of love. It tells the story of Belle, a young woman from a small town and the Beast, who is actually a handsome prince trapped under an evil spell. The beast’s appearance is drastically altered, so he shuts himself away from the outside world. If Beast can learn to truly love, and be loved despite his exterior appearance, the spell will be broken and he will again become the dashing price he once was. One of the many themes of Beauty and the Beast is finding a person’s true inner beauty, no matter what they look like on the outside. The cast for the production at Segerstrom Center for the Arts is full of talented artists and will be lead by Darick Pead in the role of Beast and Hilary Maiberger in the role of Belle. The two stars have dozens of theater credits between them and have starred in several different productions. The current production of Beauty and the Best is produced by NETworks Presentations and has played for over two million people in more than 1,000 performances across all 50 states and six Canadian provinces. Beauty and the Beast will be at Segerstrom Center for the Arts for six days, from January 14-19, 2014 and will perform eight shows. The 2 p.m. show on Saturday, January 18 will include an audio description, open captioning and sign-language interpretation. Tickets start at just $29. The fun starts before the curtains are drawn with great pre-show activities that begin an hour prior to each performance. The pre-show activities for Beauty and the Beast include a puppet-making workshop conducted by Center Arts Teach artist Ellen Schulze where children can create their own Lumiere-inspired puppets. There will be a library on display complete with fun children’s books and coloring sheets. The photo opportunity is always a popular pre-show activity and invites guests to pose in front of two different, yet equally charming backdrops. Posing for the photos is fun, so be sure to share your best ones on social media. Use the hashtags #BeOurGuestOC and #SCFTA on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. There will also be something for your taste buds with themed cupcakes and cocktails created by the Patina Restaurant Group.
