Posted on November 13, 2013 | 4:40pm

With performances by comedy legend Martin Short and Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, the duo behind the hit TV series MythBusters, next week is going to be an unforgettable one at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa.

As the leader in the performing arts in Orange County, SCFTA is the premier venue in OC to see the world’s top talent on stage.  From dance companies to Broadway musical productions, and everything in between – if it’s a staged performance in OC, SCFTA is the place to see it.

Intergalactic Nemesis Book Two: Robot Planet Rising

Posted on November 6, 2013 | 3:36pm

The Intergalactic Nemesis returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts with Book Two: Robot Planet Rising in the Samueli Theater.  The sequel to last season’s hit show picks up two weeks after the end of book one with the adventures of Molly Sloan and Timmy Mendez.

The star of the show is the storytelling method in this visually striking performance.  Intergalactic Nemesis combines radio-style storytelling drama with over 1,000 comic book visuals.  The show takes the original artwork from the comic book and projects the images onto a two-story high video screen.  Three actors provide the voices for all of the characters; one performer creates all of the sound effects while a keyboardist provides the score.

Weekend Events in Costa Mesa

Posted on September 19, 2013 | 10:04am

Before we set the clocks back and fully recognize that it’s no longer summer, there are some great events in Costa Mesa this weekend that will help postpone that reality.  From inspirational talks and an art exhibition to rock climbing and a sports themed fashion show, the City of the Arts is host to some fun events to fill your weekend and help ease you into the upcoming cooler climate.

Starting tomorrow, the TEDx Orange Coast annual conference will be at Segerstrom Center for the Arts.  We previously highlighted this inspiring event in our blog with some more details on the TEDx series.  This year’s theme is “Beautiful Minds” and features dozens of speakers who provide insight to their lives through a story-telling format.  The conference will be Friday and Saturday and is full of talks that are each less than 18 minutes long and designed to educate, inform, inspire, entertain and more.  For tickets and other TEDx Orange Coast information, click here.

Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club at SCFTA

Posted on September 10, 2013 | 9:46am

From humble beginnings to Grammy Award winners, a small collective of little known veteran musicians from Cuba known as the Buena Vista Social Club burst onto the music scene in 1997 with their unique brand of Latin jazz and ballads.

Their star continued to rise the following year in 1998 when film maker Wim Wenders’ Oscar nominated documentary received wide acclaim.  An international tour followed the film and the Buena Vista Social Club went on to become a major influence on the emergence of Latin sound in popular music.
