Fine Indian Cuisine, Indeed

Posted on April 3, 2009 | 9:00am

I recently tried Indian food for the first time at Royal Khyber Fine Indian Cuisine.  The service was commendable and the staff was helpful; when I had questions about dishes, the servers took the time to explain their detail. I can understand why the restaurant has been here in South Coast Village for many years.

Chicken Samosa and spicy Tandoori Kebabs were the starter dishes. The Samosa was palatable and accompanied with jam/salsa sauce that was sweet, yet included enough spice to complement the pungent sweetness. My companions’ kebabs were absolutely wonderful. The lamb meatballs were divine, almost bite sized yet filled with flavor. Mind you, there’s a little kick in this course. I would be weary of this- otherwise, dig in! The chicken kebabs were another surprise. Tender, smooth chicken that almost tasted as if they were stuffed with ricotta cheese. Very delicious! Read More

Food (and Beer) for Thought

Posted on March 13, 2009 | 9:00am

And because of the array of items they offer, I’ve been able to satisfy numerous different cravings despite how different they may seem. Read More

Maggiano’s Little Italy is Bigger and Better Now

Posted on November 10, 2008 | 9:00am

Maggiano’s in Costa Mesa just recently expanded their bar area.  It’s a much needed expansion, since the bar and waiting area was way too small for the volume.  They took over the Corner Bakery and it’s now all Maggiano’s.  I thought I was going to be walking in through the Corner Bakery as usual and was pleasantly surprised to see that it’s more of Maggiano’s.  There’s now plenty of room to spread out and meet friends for a drink in the bar.

This night we had Mom’s Lasagna and Veal and Mushroom Ravioli al Forno.  All was fabulous as usual.  Abbondanza!
