Boudin Bakery – A Whif of Heaven

Posted on February 16, 2010 | 9:00am

Just walking by Boudin Bakery is like a whif of heaven. You can smell the  sourdough bread baking in the South Coast Plaza corridors.

Boudin is a nice place to stop for a nice quick lunch. They serve sandwiches, soup, salad, and pastries and are known for their sourdough bread and clam chowder. I can easily eat here twice a week because of the convenience of being so close to the parking lot and the low prices of the food. Read More

Maggiano’s Little Italy Restaurant Review

Posted on January 4, 2010 | 9:00am

Maggiano’s is located in the parking lot of South Coast Plaza right outside of Sears.  They used to split the building with Corner Bakery, but Corner Bakery is now gone and Maggiano’s has expanded.  It was a much needed expansion so they could seat more hungry people.  I always recommend having a reservation for this restaurant, but if you don’t, it’s still worth the wait! They serve their dishes family style, meaning each portion could easily feed 2-3 people.  The restaurant itself has a nice dim, romantic ambiance.  It has the feel that you’re in an expensive restaurant, minus the expensive! The pasta dishes are offered in half portions and full portions.  Half portions meaning you don’t want to share your plate of deliciousness.  Full portions meaning you also don’t want to share and you want leftovers to enjoy the next day.  I find it to be worth it to pay the extra $3-4 for the full portion so I have left overs for the next day. Darya Restaurant Review – Fine Persian Cuisine

Posted on December 14, 2009 | 9:00am

Darya is awesome. Definitely coming back again. Fine Dining but with very nice service, not a stuck up place.

Food (Lunch):
-Appetizer: Wanted the Dolemeh but recommended the Borani (excellent recommendation)

-Entree: Didn’t want casual kabob combination orders…borrriinnnggg.Got the Special Persian Stew (sauce) Ghormeh Sabzi – recommended between the last one for salty taste. Although he did recommend the middle one (Fesenjon), I didn’t feel like any sweet food at the time. Will have to try it next time.

-Drink: The Republic of Tea Ginger Peach Tea unsweetened – pretty good, but wouldn’t pay $4+ for it. Read More

Vie De France Café Review

Posted on December 14, 2009 | 9:00am

Vie de France is located in South Coast Plaza and has been there for as long as I can remember. It’s nice to stop here after shopping for hours on end and you want something to munch on without breaking the bank. They have two different parts of their restaurant, a bakery section and a sit down cafe. They are located on the lower level right outside of Saks Fifth Avenue.  You can’t miss this place as there is always a long line for their bakery. The long line goes by pretty quick and lets you browse through their pastry case as you wait in line. This can mean bad news sometimes because everything always looks so good. Read More

Avanti Café Review

Posted on November 30, 2009 | 9:00am

Avanti Café is a vegetarian restaurant located on 17th and Westminster Street in Costa Mesa. It can be easy to miss as there are not many large signs that draw attention to this small eatery. My first impression walking in is the appearance isn’t what I would expect of a “café.”

The tables were primarily located inside and it felt more as if I were in a small Mom & Pop style deli with shelves of different food items ready to purchase, a case of prepared food that you can choose to either take home or eat there as well as many shelves of tea. Read More
