Alex Honnold, one of the top free soloist rock climbers in the world stopped by Gear Co Op last night to meet with fans and help raise funds for his charity, The Honnold Foundation.
Climbing enthusiasts packed the courtyard at The OC Mix for the chance to meet Honnold. Honnold is best known for climbing massive rock walls in record settig times, but last night, he was busy signing posters and posing for photos with fans.
Although Honnold was certainly the main draw, people came out to see the latest climbing gear from vendors and partake in the variety of activities planned for the evening.
The employees of Gear Co Op tapped the keg and poured beers as guests mingled throughout the store and in the courtyard. There was a bouldering competition, slack-lining, dyno competition, live auction, slideshow, live music and a raffle.
Before the event, Gear Co Op offered the opportunity for climbers to get a 90 minute climbing clinic with Honnold. There were only 10 tickets available as part of a special auction, which allowed the winners a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best in an intimate setting.
All of the proceeds from the evening benefitted the Honnold Foundation. The Foundation helps people live better, simply – using clean, accessible energy. It also gives grants to organizations making a positive difference in the world, like Solar Aid and GRID alternatives.
