Tony Award®-winning superstar actress and Billboard-charting singer Idina Menzel, as well as a series of other original Broadway stars — LaChanze, James Snyder and Anthony Rapp — are coming to Costa Mesa, playing in the musical “If/Then,” which shows at Segerstrom Center for the Arts from Jan. 19-24.

Menzel, who won a best actress Tony in 2004 for her role as a green-skinned witch in “Wicked,” plays the musical’s center of gravity — Elizabeth, a 40-year-old newly divorced woman who moves back to contemporary New York from Phoenix to start over as a city planner.

Elizabeth’s life then splits into two different and competing paths, one taking her on a career-based path in big city government, the other on the way to love and family with an Army doctor. When her carefully designed plans collide with fate, she must contemplate the dual branching directions.

The four stars reprise their original roles on the Broadway hit, which runs a national tour starting from Denver and ending in Costa Mesa.

“If/Then,” reunites composer Tom Kitt, book writer Brian Yorkey and director Michael Greif, the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical “Next to Normal.”

Menzel, whose career has traversed stage, film, television and music, has made history as the first person with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting.

In fact, Menzel, who voiced “Elsa” in the Disney animated film “Frozen,” was voted by fans to be the No.1-must-see performance on Broadway, according to Broadway.com.
