National Cheese Day in Costa Mesa

Posted on June 4, 2013 | 11:57am | Travel Costa Mesa

June 4 is National Cheese Day and celebrating is easy – all you have to do is indulge in your favorite type of cheese!

Hundreds of different types of cheeses from many countries exist.  With vast differences in shape, color, consistency, taste, smell and texture, there is a seemingly endless variety of cheese to choose from.  In this regard, cheese has many parallels with wine.  The ingredients, process, origin, use and other factors vary greatly.  Like wine, cheese is equally as diverse and can certainly add to just about any meal.

Whether you are a cheese aficionado or just looking to expand your palate, the Cellar Cheese Shop at the OC Mix in Costa Mesa is a one-stop-shop for any and all of your cheese desires!

If you’re looking for a specific cheese, be sure to call ahead of time to ensure the Cheese Shop has your selection in stock.  The selection is always on rotation and features various cheeses made from sheep, goat, cow and buffalo/mixed milk.

Options like Winchester Habanero, snow white cheddar and gorgonzola dolce offer a hint of what tastes are in store, however, others like crocodile tears, roaring ‘40s and isle of mull leave more to the imagination.  While many of the cheeses have an air of mystery, the “Cheese Mongers” will certainly help guide you on your journey.  Seasonal selections also vary.

Along with cheese, customers can purchase select meats and accouterments to take your cheese experience to the next level.  Accessorize your cheese with options like honey, preserves, nuts, mustard, chocolate, pickled stuffs and more.

Additionally, if you’re looking for a quick bite on the go, the Cheese Shop also offers a selection of sandwiches.

You’ll be able to spot the Cheese Shop by the impressive display of products and by the store mascot, Clementine the Cow, who proudly stands out front.  Clementine was named by Cheese Shop customers and celebrates her birthday each year on March 2.  When you stop by, be sure to ring Clementine’s bell for good luck!
